Consumer Critiques

This clock radio is a pretty impressive small music machine! It sounds amazing for it's size, and lets you remote control your iPod or iPhone from bed or across the area. It has a couple of other unique features that come in very handy:
1) This particular model is "GSM shielded", which signifies that it in fact works effectively with an iPhone. If you attempt to use an iPhone on an older (or low cost) iPod clock radio, you are going to end up hearing a bunch of static and buzzing noises if you attempt to play songs on the iPhone or listen to the radio when the phone is plugged in. You can get around this by putting the telephone in airplane mode, but then you happen to be going to miss calls and e-mails even though you're listening to phone on your clock radio. Not cool.
2) FM Radio reception on this model is quite great, and it sounds terrific! AM reception is not so hot, but I doubt that countless people who decide to buy a high-tech clock radio like this genuinely listen to a lot AM radio anymore.
three) This model has dual alarms, which did not seem like a major deal to me at the time when I bought it. Then I realized that this issue also has a calendar built into it, and that I can plan 1 alarm to go off for the duration of the week and a separate alarm to go off only on weekends. Sweet! No a lot more having to shut off the everyday alarm on Friday morning and getting to recall to turn it back on Sunday night!
Some other thoughts... I have each an iPhone 3G and an old iPod Photo, and they both perform fine in this clock radio. Even the menu navigation on the old iPod works fine from the remote. That said, you will will need to ditch the annoying small dock inserts that come with the clock radio to make the older "fat" iPod's fit. You are going to also need to have to shed the insert if you have a case on your iPhone.. it will not fit otherwise.
Other than that annoying small flaw, it really is a superb product.

I purchased this iHome unit about a month ago and have been entirely satisfied with it. The sound good quality is far more than satisfactory for a clock radio, even though absolutely not high fidelity. The controls are effortless to understand and the instruction book is clear. It was substantially simpler to set up and adjust this clock radio than my previous Sony. There are various issues I do NOT like, on the other hand. 1st, the wheels on the leading of the unit (applied to adjust time, and so on) are incredibly stylish, but challenging to use. I discovered that dampening the tip of my finger helped a lot, but this appears a bit unsanitary. Also, when setting up the clock, it is supposed to locate the time zone on its own, but it could not. I had to pick the time manually. (Not a significant deal.) Lastly, in order to wake to a playlist, you have to generate a playlist known as "iHome" and place your songs into it. This appears odd. Why cannot I just pick any playlist on my iPod and use that? Strange... And when you wake to a playlist and press "Snooze," the playlist does not "pause" as it does on most alarms it "mutes." This signifies if you wake to your favorite song and press "Snooze," when the alarm comes on once again it will be playing a fully different song. Having the Snooze button "pause" instead of "mute" would be much much better. I worked around this predicament by placing 20 duplicates of my wake-up song into the iHome playlist, but as soon as again... this is incredibly awkward and strange.
Overall, would I buy this unit again, even if I knew of all these quibbles? The answer is yes.
